Botox vs. Daxxify: Which Wrinkle Relaxer Is Right for You?

If you're thinking about getting Botox or Daxxify, one of the first questions you might have is: Which one is better?

My answer? I love both!

After more than 20 years working in healthcare and seven years specializing in aesthetic injectables, I've learned that there's no single treatment that's right for everyone. Botox and Daxxify are both excellent products, but they work a little differently, and choosing between them depends on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, treatment area, and what you're hoping to achieve.

At Azary Aesthetics, where I see clients in Yonkers, Garden City, Carle Place, Queens, and Manhattan, my approach has always been about enhancing your natural beauty, not changing the way you look.

I don't want you to look frozen or like you've had work done. I want your friends to tell you that you look rested, rejuvenated, and refreshed without knowing exactly why.

Botox vs. Daxxify: What's the Difference?

Botox and Daxxify are both neuromodulators, which means they temporarily relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines and wrinkles. Think of the lines that form when you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows.

Both products can give beautiful, natural-looking results when they're used correctly.

One difference I always explain to my clients is that Botox and Daxxify are measured in different units.

For example, the FDA-approved dose for treating the "11s" between your eyebrows is 20 units of Botox or 40 units of Daxxify.

You might hear people describe this as a 2-to-1 relationship, but that doesn't mean you're getting twice as much product or that one is stronger than the other. Their units are simply measured differently and aren't interchangeable.

I always tell my clients not to get too caught up in comparing units. What matters is how the product works with your particular facial muscles.

Where I Prefer to Use Daxxify

I especially love Daxxify for the upper face.

In my practice, I frequently choose it when treating:

  • The "11s" between the eyebrows (glabella)

  • Horizontal forehead lines

  • Crow's feet around the eyes

One thing I hear from clients who love Daxxify is that their skin looks especially fresh and glowing afterward. Some also tell me they begin noticing a difference within just a few days.

I love seeing those results, but I also remind everyone that each person's response is different.

When I'm treating the entire upper face, I might use approximately 100–120 units of Daxxify, depending on the client's anatomy, muscle activity, and desired result.

Daxxify is FDA-approved for moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. Using it for other areas, such as the forehead or crow's feet, is considered off-label, something I always discuss when planning treatment.

When I Prefer Botox

Botox is another product I absolutely love, and there are certain treatments where I tend to reach for it first.

For the lower face and neck, I often prefer Botox for procedures such as:

  • Lip flips: A subtle way to relax the muscles around the upper lip

  • DAO injections: Helping soften the downward pull at the corners of the mouth

  • Masseter treatment: Relaxing the jaw muscles for concerns such as a prominent masseter

  • Nefertiti neck lift: Targeting specific neck muscles to help improve the appearance of the jawline

For example, a lip flip might require around 4–8 units of Botox, while masseter treatment may involve approximately 20–50 units, depending on the muscle size, whether we're treating one or both sides, and the individual's goals.

These are not one-size-fits-all treatments, and several are considered off-label.

Sometimes clients come in asking for a treatment they've seen on social media. I'm always happy to talk about it, but before recommending anything, I want to understand their anatomy and make sure the treatment makes sense for them.

How Long Does Botox or Daxxify Last?

This is probably one of the most common questions I get!

In my practice, clients generally experience results lasting around three to four months with either Botox or Daxxify, although some people see results lasting longer or shorter.

Daxxify has demonstrated a longer duration for glabellar lines in clinical studies, with a median duration of approximately six months in its pivotal trials. But clinical trial averages don't necessarily predict how long results will last for every individual or every treatment area.

Several things can influence your results, including your muscle strength, metabolism, dosage, treatment area, and previous treatments.

I prefer to be realistic rather than promise that a particular product will last a certain number of months. We'll talk about what to expect based on your own history and goals.

Do You Really Need 64 Units of Botox for Your Upper Face?

Let's talk about something I see all the time: Botox specials advertising 20 or 40 units.

I understand why those offers are appealing. Everyone loves a good deal! But I also think it's important to understand what those numbers actually mean.

I've had clients tell me their previous injector used 20 units to treat their entire upper face. That might be enough for certain people, depending on their muscle activity and goals, but for others it may not provide the balanced result they're looking for.

To put things into perspective, the FDA-approved Botox Cosmetic dosing for the three upper-face areas totals 64 units:

  • Forehead lines: 20 units

  • Glabellar lines ("11s"): 20 units

  • Crow's feet: 24 units total

When treating all three areas together, the labeled total is 64 units.

In my practice, a complete upper-face treatment may involve approximately 50–64 units of Botox or 100–120 units of Daxxify, depending on the person.

Now, does everyone need that amount? Absolutely not.

We all have different muscles, facial expressions, asymmetries, and expectations. I want to treat your face, not follow somebody else's formula.

The goal is never to sell you more units. It's to use the appropriate amount of product in the right places to achieve a result we both feel good about.

What to Expect at Your First Botox or Daxxify Appointment

Whether you're visiting me for Botox in Yonkers, Daxxify in Garden City, or a wrinkle-relaxing treatment at one of my other New York locations, your consultation is one of the most important parts of the appointment.

I always want to hear your concerns first.

What bothers you when you look in the mirror? What do you love about your face? Are you hoping for a very subtle change, or do you prefer a smoother appearance with less movement?

Then I'll look at your facial anatomy, how your muscles move, and how everything works together.

After years of doing injectables, one thing I've learned is how important it is for the injector and the client to share the same expectations.

I will always be honest about what I think will work, what might not work, and what I feel comfortable doing safely.

Sometimes that means adjusting the treatment plan. Sometimes it means suggesting a different approach. And sometimes it means telling someone that a particular treatment isn't right for them.

I'd much rather build a relationship based on trust than perform a treatment I don't believe in.

My Philosophy: Refreshed, Not Frozen

What I enjoy most about being an aesthetic injector is helping people feel good about themselves.

To me, a great Botox or Daxxify treatment isn't about erasing every line or preventing your face from moving. It's about understanding how your muscles work and creating a softer, more refreshed appearance that still feels like you.

I want you to look in the mirror and recognize yourself, just a little more rested, rejuvenated, and confident.

That's what I love about this work, and it's the approach I bring to every appointment.
